Member Requirements

Riverside County RACES will consist of registered volunteers licensed by the FCC in the Amateur Radio Service.  Only those individuals registered as Volunteer Disaster Workers with the County of Riverside Office of Emergency Services will be considered members of Riverside County RACES.

The requirements for young (under 18 years of age) FCC Licensed Amateurs will be the same as above.  However, for all assignments on an incident or a drill, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian that is also a RACES member.

Member Responsibilities

  1. Must have registered with Riverside County as a Volunteer Disaster Service Worker.
  2. Be a licensed Amateur Radio operator with the FCC.
  3. Maintain at least one 2 meter radio of 5 watts or more output in working order at all times.
  4. Pass a background check conducted by the County of Riverside.
  5. Been issued photo identification card by the Office of Emergency Services, Riverside County Fire.
  6. Completed all required basic training described in this manual.
  7. Maintain a uniform in compliance with the requirement spelled out in this manual.
  8. Attend regular meetings and training sessions to stay abreast of all requirements and upcoming events. A minimum of three meetings a year is required.
  9. Participate in as many drills, practice events or community support events as practical per year.
  10. Personally answer 8 or more regular District Roll Calls per year.
